Fluttering Spring Cupcake Toppers

March 30, 2015 by Dangerously-Delicious.com

These fluttering butterflies make a beautiful table display for Easter and will be an exciting treat for your little guests to sink their teeth into.  You can create these whimsical cupcake toppers this Spring with a few easy steps.

Fluttering Cupcakes - CopyAs I was grocery shopping last week, I had this idea of fluttering butterfly cupcakes… Why couldn’t I make those little Pepperidge Farm butterflies hover over a cupcake? So off to the craft store I went with my 5 kids in tow to find myself some strong wire and make that idea come to life! Yeah, my 5 little people don’t hinder me from going out because…. they’re actually really well-behaved in public! (lucky me!) Plus, they’re a product of their mother and going to the craft store can be even more exciting than the toy store. What can I say? We’re just a crafty family.

I’m so pleased with the results of these cupcake toppers and, of course, just in time for Easter! Phew! While decorating my butterflies, I really felt like simple was the way to go, but feel free to get as colorful and decorative as you like! Have fun with it!

Fluttering CupcakeTake your floral wire and bend it in half. Thread both sides of the wire into the bottom 2 holes of the cracker. Using these 2 holes allows for added stability. Do not use the 2 holes closest to the center. Once the cracker is dipped and becomes heavier, it will fall backwards. Trust me. Learn from my mistakes. (wink, wink)

Step by step directionsTwist your wire together creating a tight loop around the cracker. Be careful not to break the cracker. Twist all 4 pieces all the way down.

Step by stepUsing a pencil, wrap the wire around creating tight coils.

Step 3 - Copy Remove the pencil and voila! NOW you will dip your cracker into melted candy wafers of your choice. Place the butterflies on parchment paper and stick 2 small pieces of edible Easter grass under the top of the butterfly. Decorate with nonpareils or sprinkles of your choice. When dry, place into middle of frosted cupcake.
Wha La!

Just another view… I think they’re adorable from all angles!

Dangerously Delicious

My name is Crystal Dangerfield and I am so excited to bring you tried and true recipes that my whole family and I enjoy together. I love being in the kitchen and trying new recipes. Of course we have our favorites, but my kids are pretty good sports about trying new things. I refuse to buy ready-made frozen meals and refrain from fast food. My kids do not know what a “happy meal” is and I want to keep it that way! My husband was diagnosed with Celiac’s Disease several years ago and I have had to learn how to alter recipes into gluten free versions that the whole family still loves.
